PRIORITIZING MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH: CNF GRANTS ESSENTIAL MEDICAL SUPPORT TO VULNERABLE PATIENTS IN KUJE HOSPITALS

Chiggy Nsofor Foundation (CNF) recently launched a vital Healthcare Outreach targeting two hospitals in Kuje, Abuja: Kuje General Hospital and White Dove Hospital. This initiative aimed to provide essential support to pregnant women, new mothers and young children who are unable to afford their medical bills and medications, demonstrating our commitment to making healthcare a fundamental right of all.

During our visit we encountered several patients in critical need of assistance. Patients who benefitted from our intervention include new mothers who could not pay their neonatal and postnatal bills, children suffering from pneumonia and malnourishment whose parents could not afford their treatment and medications, and finally, patients who were treating ulcers. The Foundation cleared the medical bills for the pregnant women, new mothers and their newborns ensuring that their financial burdens were alleviated, allowing these mothers to focus on their recovery and newborns. Among these sets of patients helped was a new mother whose baby was in dire need of oxygen but could not afford it. Our foundation was glad to offset the bills to enable her baby access to the oxygen needed.

A beneficiary of our healthcare outreach was a child diagnosed with chronic pneumonia. Her mother explained to us that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia and there was no money to treat her. She stated “my daughter is down with Pneumonia, the test results show she is positive. She doesn’t breathe properly and also feels very feverish. I don’t have any money and her father is also not around. I don’t know what else to do.” She further stated that she was on her way out of the hospital with her sick child as she could not afford her child’s medical bills and medication, if not for a nurse that called her back to the hospital. CNF stepped in and paid for her daughter’s treatment and also bought the prescribed drugs to aid her recovery.

Another heart-wrenching case was that of a severely malnourished child. Her father related to us the struggle he was facing and his inability to afford her medical bills and drugs due to economic hardship. He said “feeding is also an issue as we are not buoyant to afford an average balanced diet”. The Foundation paid his child’s medical expenses, bought all her prescribed medications and also provided funds for her feeding, ensuring the little child has a comprehensive path to full recovery.

In addition to the previously mentioned cases, CNF also offered assistance to ulcer patients who could not afford their medical bills by offsetting their bills. These interventions by CNF have had a profound impact, offering relief and hope to families grappling with health challenges in the midst of economic hardship.

Expressing gratitude to the Foundation, Matron of Kuje General Hospital said, “thank you for your Foundation coming to the hospital to see the patients, thank you for the bills that were offset. We pray that God will bless you people richly”. In the same light as above, the Matron of White Dove Hospital, Matron Adesola stated, “the Almighty God will continue to be with you and continue to perfect your work in all aspects of life. Thanks so much, we really appreciate you, all my colleagues and the Director of this hospital really appreciate you.”

Beneficiaries of CNF’s Healthcare Outreach also expressed deep appreciation for the Foundation’s intervention. The mother of the little girl with pneumonia conveyed her gratitude, saying, “may God reward you. As you have helped clear our bill, may God also help you.” Echoing other beneficiaries, the father of the malnourished child thanked and prayed for the Foundation, he said “thanks to the organization that has brought these drugs in such a desperate moment for us as a family since we have been in the hospital and couldn’t even afford her medications and food. We are grateful, may God open doors to you. May God strengthen you to do more. May God replenish the source in a thousand folds”.

CNF’s Healthcare outreach highlights the importance and impact of our intervention and support to pregnant women, new mothers, their newborn and children’s health in general. By addressing their immediate medical needs, through paying for their treatments, medication and feeding, we are not only saving lives but also building a healthier community. Our commitment reflects our broader mission to ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances, has access to the healthcare they need to achieve a better quality of life.
